Gold Class Daruma is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels welcoming and relaxed, making it the perfect place to enjoy an amazing meal. Every piece of sushi is incredibly fresh and top-quality ingredients. The chef handcraft each piece with care and beautifully presented. The fish melts in your mouth, and the flavours are outstanding without being overwhelming. Service is quick but only feel a bit rush once we finished all course understand that they will prepare the seats for the next customers. If youโ€™re a sushi lover (or even if youโ€™re trying sushi for the first time), this place is a must-visit. Iโ€™ll definitely be coming back again and again! ๐Ÿฃโœจ

Gold Class Daruma โ€“ A Hidden Gem in Sydneyโ€™s Japanese Dining Scene Tucked away in the heart of the Sydney CBD, Gold Class Daruma is a hidden gem that we quite literally stumbled upon after a quick Google search for โ€œJapanese restaurant Sydney CBD.โ€ The Chefโ€™s Tasting Menu ($89) seemed almost too good to be true, so we booked online and walked straight in for dinner. First Impressions Stepping inside, we briefly wondered if weโ€™d made a mistake. The dรฉcor, menus and overall ambience felt frozen in time โ€” a definite throwback to the 1990s. Itโ€™s fair to say the interior hasnโ€™t seen a design refresh in quite some time. But then we reminded ourselves โ€” we were here for the food. Service was brisk and efficient, if somewhat impersonal. No small talk, no frills โ€” just quick, functional hospitality. The Meal We opted for the Chefโ€™s Tasting Menu, adding a Sake Flight (three sakes for $25) and upgrading our hotpot to Wagyu beef for an additional $10. Then the dishes began to arrive: 1. Pacific Oyster โ€“ Crisp, smooth and light; beautifully balanced without overpowering flavour. 2. Wagyu Beef Tataki โ€“ A modest take on a classic dish. Simple, though not particularly memorable. 3. Sashimi โ€“ Fresh, clean and of good quality โ€” better than most Japanese restaurants in Sydney. The inclusion of squid was a pleasant and unexpected touch. 4. Age-mono (Pufferfish) โ€“ Had the menu not mentioned it, we might not have known it was pufferfish. Still, a nicely crumbed and well-executed fish course โ€” surprising and satisfying. 5. Mushi-mono โ€“ Delicately textured and subtly flavoured; very well done. 6. Sushi โ€“ The standout of the evening. Perfectly portioned and skillfully prepared, with red snapper and sardine offering a welcome point of difference. 7. Wagyu Beef Hotpot โ€“ Comforting and familiar. Nicely presented, though not groundbreaking. 8. Dessert (Matcha Mousse Cake) โ€“ A homemade delight; light, balanced and an excellent way to finish the meal. Overall The food was consistently good โ€” well-proportioned, refined and thoughtful, though not especially inventive when compared to other omakase or tasting menus around Sydney. Ambience and service were minimal, but functional. Ask and youโ€™ll receive, though donโ€™t expect much warmth or engagement. However, when you consider the price โ€” roughly $125 per person including upgrades and sake โ€” the value for money is exceptional. In a city where high-end Japanese dining often comes at double the cost (or more!), Gold Class Daruma delivers a diverse and satisfying culinary experience at a fraction of the price. In summary: Gold Class Daruma lets its food do the talking. Itโ€™s not flashy or modern, but it delivers solid Japanese cuisine with integrity and excellent value. Weโ€™ll definitely be returning โ€” next time, for the Premium Sushi Omakase, since the sushi was, without doubt, the highlight of the evening.

The atmosphere was nice and the presentation of each dish looked good. However, the overall experience felt less satisfying than expected, and the variety was quite limited. It was interesting to try once, but I wouldnโ€™t rush back for this omakase.

Awesome place! Iโ€™ve been coming here for years for all sorts of occasions, from birthdays to casual get-togethers, and it never disappoints. The food is outstanding โ€” honestly, there isnโ€™t a single bad choice on the menu, everything is fantastic. Prices are very reasonable for the quality youโ€™re getting, and the service is always warm, friendly, and welcoming. Canโ€™t recommend this place enough!

Had an absolutely fantastic evening here. Dinner for two - Chefs Tasting Menu (August 2025). Top tier service, great food and nice atmosphere. Walked out full with big smiles on our faces. Highly recommended, weโ€™ll be back!
