We came here during the Christmas break and had such a great time. The atmosphere was amazing โ the interior really gives you that authentic Japanese izakaya vibe, warm and relaxing. We ordered the Sukiyaki pot, Wagyu Steak Don and unagi rice, and everything was delicious. The value for money is excellent, especially adding extra wagyu to the sukiyaki โ perfect for meat lovers like us. Special mention to the staff โ the young guy who served us was very friendly and attentive, and even explained how to enjoy the dishes properly. The service felt thoughtful without being over the top. Definitely a place Iโd come back to. Great for catching up with friends or going on a casual date.
Hanashi is a fantastic Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Beautiful atmosphere, fresh ingredients, and amazing food. The wagyu beef and sukiyaki hot pot were standout dishes โ rich, comforting, and full of flavour. Everything was well presented and the service was friendly. Highly recommend and would definitely come back.
Visited Hanashi for dinner and it was a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is warm and a bit refined without being too formal. We tried the chawanmushi, sukiyaki pot with extra M5+ wagyu slices, wagyu dice, and a wagyu steak don. Everything was nicely cooked. The chawanmushi was soft, the sukiyaki had good flavour balance, and the added wagyu slices gave it more richness. The wagyu dice were juicy, and the steak don was a solid bowl as well. Overall, good food and decent portions. Would come back if Iโm craving Japanese comfort dishes.
Itโs a cozy izakaya that focuses on yakitori and Japanese-inspired dishes, and everything feels thoughtful and well-made. The sashimi was fresh and clean, and the unagi don was rich, tender, and super comforting. Itโs one of those places you walk out of thinking, โYep, Iโm coming back.โ Great food, relaxed vibe, and a solid spot for a casual night out.
Came down to Melbourne for a conference at the Pullman hotel on the park. Hanashi is just a six minute walk down the road. I got tired of the crappy Hotel food which is overpriced for what you get so I thought Iโd try this little Restaurant down the road. although the restaurant was a little noisy (after all Hanashi means conversation in Japanese) due to a large celebratory group, I found a nice spot near the kitchen. I didnโt really know what to order and relied on the very lovely waitress. I ended up ordering the smoked edamame for appetiser, the steamed egg dish for an entree, the chefโs special 10 Yakitori skewers Along with the Wagyu beef don, and the tiramisu mousse for dessert. all washed down with a Sapporo beer. I like the venue and the atmosphere. The waitresses were on point even with a big group just opposite me. Even though I only ate the cooked food, the diners sitting across from me had some wonderful sashimi and Japanese hotpot style dishes. I recommend if youโre staying down this way to give Hanashi a try. You wonโt be disappointed.
