Finally, there's an upscale Japanese speakeasy on this side of the CBD! This was a stunning experience from start to finish - from the moment we were ushered into the beautiful intimate dining room, to the friendly service and of course the delicious food. Every dish was executed beautifully with all senses in mind - seeing the beautiful golden trays, smelling and hearing the crackling of the wood of the smoked beef. I also loved the drinks, the Yakult cocktail was so delicious and clever (although you don't really want to leave it too long as it starts to split after sitting out). I've already been back and can't wait to see where this place goes next.

itโ€™s simply stunning. Mitto isnโ€™t just a restaurant โ€” itโ€™s a transformation. What was once a 19th-century police station now quietly opens its sandstone doors to something much softer: a thoughtful izakaya, where fire, textures and memory collide. From the smoky Wagyu Foie Gras nigiri to the signature Kikabo Punch, every dish tells its own story. From the handcrafted washi lanterns to the preserved prison corridors, this place balances reverence and reinvention with care. I was lucky enough to come here during their soft opening, and was shown corners not yet open to the public. Every room, every corridor โ€” it all felt cinematic.
