Celebrated my birthday here and had high expectations for this restaurant โ€” it exceeded them. The seasonal omakase was exceptional, and the seafood was incredibly fresh. I really enjoyed the 10 hand-picked nigiri and had such a great experience with both the food and the service. The staff were really good and attentive throughout the experience, and the main chef who served us was very nice and accommodating. One of the other chefs (a woman) didnโ€™t seem very engaged when serving us โ€” she only served us for two courses. Aside from that, everything was great. I would definitely come back here.

Love the food and wonderful service here. We had the omakase at the table, and ordered the additional nigiri. The sashimi was well prepared and fresh, the foie gras chawamushi was luxurious and pairs well with the Nori crunch. The char grilled Wagyu was very nice, not a stand out, but still very nice and rich. The nigiri were all delicious, really good standouts in both the first nigiri and the second, my personal favourites were the hotate with foie gras, and the ebi with ikura. The desert was a crunchy ice cream monaka sandwich, that had a Vegemite caramel and a hint/schmear of boysenberry - so yummy. Will definitely be back, and will opt to sit at the sushi bar next time.

I made a reservation and visited this restaurant to celebrate my partner's birthday. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the food was, of course, delicious. The staff's attentiveness and hospitality were truly exceptional, and I was completely satisfied. They even prepared a small surprise birthday cake for my partner, which was a lovely touch. Both the cuisine and the staff here are highly professional. I would definitely love to visit again!

Came here for a birthday dinner and left with mixed feelings โ€” some dishes really stood out while others felt more standard for the price point. The highlight for me was definitely the hand-cut sushi rolls, especially the spicy tuna roll โ€” clean, fresh flavours with a satisfying texture and a good balance between rice, filling, and seaweed. The sashimi platter on the other hand, while fresh, didnโ€™t feel particularly special compared to other omakase-style spots around Melbourne. Still solid, but not something Iโ€™d come back for specifically. Among the cooked dishes, the grilled kingfish collar was excellent โ€” slightly charred on the outside, beautifully fatty and tender inside. You do have to work a little to get the meat off the bone, but the flavour payoff makes it worthwhile. The udon was also a pleasant surprise โ€” the broth had a slightly unusual flavour profile but one I really enjoyed; light yet full-bodied enough to round out the meal. The steak was nothing special, did get the cheapest cut because didnโ€™t want to spurge for steak at a Japanese joint but it was cooked well just got it to have some red meat. The beef tartare with mango didnโ€™t quite work for me either; the sweetness from the mango overpowered the natural beef flavour. Iโ€™d have preferred a more savoury, vinegar-based balance like a tataki-style preparation. The tempura was simple but well-executed โ€” crisp batter, clean oil, and good texture retention. The chawanmushi was standard but enjoyable, silky smooth with a mild foie gras note that gave it a bit of richness. Oysters were decent, fresh but nothing particularly unique, and the ox tongue leaned a bit too chewy for my taste. Overall, Komeyui delivers a good range of Japanese dishes that are clean and technically sound, but not every dish hits a memorable note. Some excellent moments (that kingfish collar and spicy tuna roll) but others were just okay for what you pay.

We came to Komeyui to celebrate my boyfriendโ€™s birthday and we were well looked after. The service was absolutely amazing. The waitress who served us was always around when we needed to order drinks, food, and when the water needed to be topped up. The food was so so good. Would highly recommend the Wagyu for the main. The sake creme brulee was also a standout for me. The other thing I was very impressed about is the complimentary cake they provided with a birthday candle which really goes a long way. Really appreciated the gesture, the good service and most importantly, the food. Thank you Komeyui for looking after us. We will definitely be back.
