We had a wonderful birthday celebration experience at Kushiro. We ate fried chicken, char siu, roasted cauliflower, beef short ribs, duck confit, black miso cod. For desserts we had the Panna Cotta and Imperial Seal. Very creative desserts! The staff also took a Polaroid photo for us to commemorate the occasion. Everyone enjoyed the dinner and we will definitely return again.

The food was unreal especially the seafood. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, clean, and well balanced. You can really tell there’s care behind each dish. The flavours hit without being heavy, and every plate felt thoughtful rather than overdone. Proper quality across the board. The cocktails deserve their own mention. The bartender seriously knows their stuff super knowledgeable, confident, and clearly passionate about what they’re pouring. The cocktail I had was spot on, well balanced, and easily one of the highlights of the night. The space itself is beautiful too. Warm lighting, stone walls, and a strong Japanese aesthetic that feels intimate and welcoming without trying too hard. It’s the kind of place you want to settle into and take your time. From the food to the drinks to the service, everything was dialled in. If you’re into fresh seafood, great cocktails, and a cosy Japanese vibe, this place is a must.

Service was good and the staff were caring and attentive. The ambience was okay, but despite having a reservation prior and the restaurant not being busy, we were seated in a corner which was disappointing. The food was good, but our expectations were higher.

My wife and I love Kushiro. We loved it before, but somehow they’ve managed to top our last night there — which we didn’t think was possible. This is next-level Japanese omakase: beautifully paced and executed with absolute perfection showcasing incredible produce and masterful technique. Drink selection is just as incredible. The atmosphere is intimate yet relaxed, the service warm and confident, and the overall experience feels special without being pretentious. Kushiro firmly cements itself as one of Fitzroy’s standout dining experiences. It gets pretty busy so don’t forget to book. Until next time 🤤

The $2 oyster happy hour was so good! Highly recommend the baked oysters and the oyster katsu. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. Were even so kind to include a treat for a birthday celebration. Would definitely come back!
