Servers here are always sweet and attentive. Iโve only been for lunch, but itโs usually quiet and relaxed. The ambience is nice โ nothing extravagant, just comfortable. The black sesame latte with mochi is sooo good and not overly sweet, and I also enjoyed the matcha mochi dessert. I ordered the wagyu don and for the price itโs filling and tasty. A great casual spot that Iโm happy to keep coming back to.
Went to OMI Canberra for dinner, and it was a great experience. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming, and they seemed very energised. The ramen was very large but delicious, with lots of different flavours. The edamame was very good, and the price was very reasonable for the portion sizes.
We had high hopes for Omi Canberra, but unfortunately, the experience fell quite short of expectations. The service was disorganised and appalling. There were significant errors with our order - three dishes arrived with incorrect ingredients. The biggest disappointment was the "ultimate Wagyu" with black truffle, the star dish we were most excited for, which never arrived. We were later told it wasnโt recorded in their system. There were also a few dishes & drinks, that became unavailable after our order was taken - yet another disappointment! To compensate, a 10% discount was applied. However, with a weekend 10% surcharge in place, it simply waived the surcharge rather than offering a genuine gesture for the mistakes. The food itself, was good - flavours, taste, and presentation were pleasing. That said, prices are steep for the portion served. Overall, the potential is there, but the operational issues and lack of meaningful service recovery made for a frustrating and overpriced meal.
Omi serves great ramen. The spicy broth is full of flavour without being too intense, and the matcha ramen was a real โwowโ something Iโve never seen before and it actually pairs perfectly with the noodles. The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.
The wagyu rice bowl was delicious and super satisfying. The beef was tender, juicy, and well-marinated, with a nice balance of sweetness and savouriness. The onsen egg added the perfect creaminess once mixed into the rice, and the little scoop of roe on top gave a nice pop of flavour. The toppings โ edamame, pickled ginger, and furikake โ made the whole bowl more refreshing and balanced. Everything worked really well together, and the portion was generous too. A great choice if you want something comforting but still full of flavour.
