About

Cute little Japanese bar in North Melbourne that serves great Japanese-style tapas and a wide selection of sake. We booked a table and were seated at the bench.

The staff were friendly but only two were working, I booked what I thought was a table sitting then that sat us on a bar table with low chairs. Very slow service, no one explained menus, no one even talked to us about the Sake. Practically no service, I had to ask to order food. The booking said business casual dress not sure why when it was such a casual small bar setting and people were in shorts anyway. Food was ok but in small amounts for the price. Not the best atmosphere or dining experience.

Cute little Japanese bar in North Melbourne that serves great Japanese-style tapas and a wide selection of sake. We booked a table and were seated at the bench. The friendly staff helped with our orders and directed us to the free sake sampling, then recommended the perfect sake pairing. We ordered the Small donburi chef omakase set with 9 types of tapas ($73), Spicy chicken wings (3pcs) ($17), Shime saba ($17), Tako fritter (4pcs) ($15), and sake. Everything was beautifully presented, tasted great, and we loved the wide variety of dishes that complemented each other. Perfect place for date night or meeting up with friends. Definitely want to come back again.

Came here because of the photos on this ad as I really love eel, sashimi , ox tongue and steak shown in th Le photos. unfortunately they got none of that . We got the 9 tapas set and itโ€™s very disappointing as the food in it only two things are nice , the rest were not good and if I go to Korean bbq place, they give u those pickles for free. I ordered the 9 tapa set is to get some eel, but it does not have it. Ramen is small portion. Curry don is ordinary and not better than that in Don Don restaurant. The 3 dishes plus 1 glass of sake cost $150. We had to order a second dinner meals after due to the unsatisfscrion. Look below what we ordered from uber eats , it cost us only $58 dollars plus delivery, total$65. Even the photos on that windows show good Food but why I got bad one . The price is too high as well.

Food was great, staff were really friendly and knowledgeable of their sake. Wanted to try different sake so had asked for recommendations and loved both that was introduced. Will definitely come back to try other sake and Japanese drinks they have!

We had an amazing dining experience at Sakedokoro Namara, a cozy and authentic Japanese spot tucked away in North Melbourne. The restaurant is quite small with limited seating, which actually adds to its charm โ€” it feels intimate, personal, and perfect for a relaxed evening out. We ordered the Chefโ€™s Omakase set for $70, and it was truly a journey of flavour and craftsmanship. Every dish was beautifully presented and thoughtfully paced, showcasing the chefโ€™s skill and passion. Each bite felt fresh, balanced, and incredibly satisfying. If you appreciate quality Japanese cuisine, the Omakase is absolutely worth it. it might be enough for 2 people including 1 extra dish on the side. We also tried the chirashi don and the teriyaki chicken don, and both were excellent. The chirashi was vibrant and fresh with a generous variety of sashimi, while the teriyaki chicken was tender, sweet-savory, and comforting โ€” a great balance of homestyle flavour and refinement. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. You can tell this is a place run with love for the food and respect for tradition. Just be sure to book ahead due to the limited space, bookings recommended, it fills up quickly!
