Great food, excellent services. Love it, must visit it again.
Arrived just on 10pm Saturday night at the kick off of the late night menu. Best moody atmosphere, found a seat no worries. We will be back for the chicken karaage!
Such a vibey place. A little bit on the dim side but otherwise great atmosphere. You pay for the food but itis fantastic. I would say it would be nice if you could order food at the table if staff walk past/are placing food on the table as you can be waiting a long time at the bar. Standouts were the ebi bao, the stuffed calamari and the crab egg fish. Also really enjoyed the takoyaki skewers. The kingfish cigar and the beef potato pave were gold concepts but the flavour wasn't quite balanced just way too sour and tangy. Overall would definitely come back!
Sakura House feels like the kind of place you stumble into on a backstreet in Tokyo, except you are in Sydney and everyone is a little taller and says mate occasionally. The vibe is nailed, warm, low lit, buzzing softly like an izakaya should. It feels intimate without trying, cool without the attitude. If you go (and you should), sit at the bar. It is the heart of the place. From there, you see the theatre, all while the team talks you through the menu like it is a playlist. Ask about the sake. Seriously. They will not just pour it, they will tell you where it is from, how it is brewed, what it reminds them of, and which dish it secretly loves. The food is clever, lots of nods to real deal Japanese flavours. Interesting, bold, comforting in ways you do not quite expect. But the drinks? The drinks are the star. Thoughtful, layered, sometimes delicate, sometimes loud, always intentional. You can feel the passion behind every pour, every garnish, every glass placed gently in front of you. The team is what ties it all together. Attentive, switched on, and genuinely passionate. They do not just serve you, they host you. It feels like you have been invited into something, not just booked a seat at it. Sakura House does not shout. It just quietly gets everything right.
Checked out this new underground Japanese izakaya tucked away in a basement in the CBD, SAKURA HOUSE, and wow, this place is a VIBE! ❤️🔥 The vibes at Sakura House is immaculate! Makes you feel like stepping into a groovy 1980s Tokyo night, neon energy, intimate corners, live music, and cocktails inspired by Japanese zine culture. It’s lively, cool, and effortlessly fun! The menu is full of playful, approachable Japanese share plates that are perfect for nibbling between drinks and good conversations. Every dish felt comforting yet creative, exactly what a late-night izakaya should be.
