The food is really delicious. The sushi here is on a different level compared to what you get at buffets or sushi trains and their roll is really yummy. It’s a great place for a family dinner out. Staffs are very friendly.

Shizen is a little Japanese gem tucked away on Martha Street in Camp Hill, and it delivered an outstanding dining experience for our party of five. It’s a small venue and, even on a weeknight, it was full, so booking ahead is advisable. With only one waiter on duty, we decided to order using the app, which worked brilliantly. A feature I really appreciated was the ability to order via the app but still pay cash at the counter - a great way to avoid those hateful card charges. With five people and different tastes and preferences, we ordered a range of dishes, including sushi, seaweed salad, dumplings (veg and meat), chicken and pork katsu, and teriyaki chicken. Every dish was a winner: fresh, flavourful, and prepared with love, care, and attention to detail. The presentation was appealing too, with colourful crockery and neatly arranged food portions. My standout was the chicken katsu: generous slices of tender chicken in a crispy batter, served with cabbage salad, rice, miso soup, and a tasty dipping sauce topped with mayo. The seaweed salad was a small portion, but it was nice and crunchy, and the dumplings were delicious with soft fillings and a thin coating. They were both perfect entrees - not too filling but just enough to whet your appetite for what was to follow. Despite my initial concerns about service - a busy restaurant and just one waiter- everything ran smoothly. The waiter was efficient, friendly, and helpful. Drinks arrived quickly, followed by entrees and mains in good time, and paying at the counter at the end was simple. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, with bright, modern décor and comfortable acoustics, which made it easy to converse despite the crowds. For my wife and me, our bill came to $78 for two small entrees, two mains, and a beer. It really highlights how, since the Albanese govt came to power, hyperinflation has eroded the purchasing power of our money. About three years ago, this meal would have cost around $60; it’s now pushing $80 - a 33% increase. As self-funded retirees, dining out has gone from a regular weekly outing to a rare luxury. There’s a single clean, clearly signposted unisex toilet at the back, and parking in surrounding streets was easy. All up, Shizen delivered excellent food, friendly and efficient service and a relaxed vibe. We’ll definitely be back.

Lovely little restaurant with a very laid-back atmosphere. It’s nothing fancy or overpriced, just a comfortable place to enjoy good food and share a meal. The menu has great variety, including plenty of gluten-free options, which I really appreciated. The miso eggplant was delicious—although I expected it to be fried based on the menu, it was still very enjoyable. The chicken bento with miso was nice, and the katsu curry was fresh and homemade, though the curry sauce itself was a little underwhelming. It lacked flavour—no real saltiness or umami to bring it together. Still, everything tasted fresh, and there’s clearly a lot of care in the dishes. I’d happily come back and try more from the menu.

First time trying this restaurant for lunch today. We ordered an entre plus the sashimi and wagyu bento boxes from the Lunch Specials menu to share. We didn't have to wait long. The meals were freshly prepared, authentic and delicious. It took me back to Japan. The service was friendly and efficient. We left with full tummies. You can pay with cash or card. Street parking is available. Just be mindful of the parking restrictions.

Chicken rice is good , serving is slow as Sunday night needs to wait more than 40 minutes including ordering and waiting for the food . The part I don’t like is the dish doesn’t match the menu. We order a signature set which indicates 14 nigiri and 6 sashimi, when it’s arrived we only see 13 nigiri . They told us the seaweed salad counts as a price of nigiri ?! Why not you show on the menu says only 13 nigiri plus seaweed salad? I don’t like when the restaurant menu doesn’t match the food . Won’t comeback again. By the way the service is slow is not the staff’s fault, I can see the waitress is so busy by herself on a Sunday night shift . The management is poor tho.
